About

Jes McCutchen (she/her/hers)

Jes lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma with her partner and their kiddo. As well as her weenie dog Fable Rose Pond. When she’s not writing, she is working at a community college as a writing tutor. She loves board games, soft sci-fi shows, and using stickers in her planner.

Jes is often a Science-Fiction & Fantasy YA author whose works are full of ensemble disaster queer casts and the occasional crime and/or alien. She writes books that are nostalgic and humorous with (spoiler alert) happy endings for the sweet baby gays. (An editor once compared her writing to “Stranger Things minus the trauma”).

Side Quests and Shenanigans is her current project, and she’d love for you to join her on the creative journey! Check out the Side Quests page for more info!

Her debut novel Chronicles of My Alien Invasion Life came out Summer 2022, followed by A Mean Piece of Water in December of 2022, and Jean Harlow and the Legend of Stonefish Creek, Fall 2024.

Between the Mess and Magic (2024) is her first poetry anthology as both contributor and editor bringing together six writers, and features photography. Her second poetry anthology is titled What We Call Home (2025). Starmen Poems (2025) from SIAMB! Press is her first collection of blackout poetry and ties into her Geraldine Hart extended universe.

She is also a co-founder and former editor for Horns And Rattles Press, an indie press located in Tulsa. Their first anthology Fish Gather to Listen came out summer 2023, and their second anthology Bitter Become the Fields came out summer 2024.
