I’m writing this from my bestie’s kitchen counter. Her perfect (and I do mean perfect) dog is asleep on the floor next to me, the sun is shining and I’m starting the editing process in earnest.
Last week I made it through my first draft. Each of the major important scenes has been written, the characters ended up where I wanted them to end up, and I’m over three quarters of the way to my word count goal!
I didn’t think I would be this far when I planned a weekend away in Kansas City. I thought it would be much more writing, but instead I’m using it to get an idea of how the editing process is going to go for me.
Thank the stars, so far I’m not hating what I’ve written (granted I wrote the first 15K words in a totally different tense than the rest). But I’m definitely seeing holes to fill, and I changed my mind about a few major events as I wrote, so going back and adjusting for those should be interesting.
But I AM interested, and that’s a big deal for me.
Tonight, we celebrate getting through the first draft round with creme brulee and I’m going to sleep in tomorrow.
I hope you get some rest this weekend!
Love, Jes
